🚨 Recent Trends for Immigration in Saskatchewan Immigration Nominee Program Update – April 2025: New Caps on Job Approval Letters in Food Services and Trucking 🚨

News for Immigration in Saskatchewan, The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) has implemented significant changes affecting employers and foreign workers in the Accommodations and Food Services, Retail Trade, and Trucking sectors.

🔒 Key Changes:

  • 25% Cap on Nominations: Effective March 27, 2025, nominations for specific occupations within the aforementioned sectors are capped at 25% of the total annual SINP nominations. This measure ensures a balanced distribution of nominations across all economic sectors.

  • Processing of Job Approval Forms (JAFs): While JAFs for these capped sectors will still be accepted, they will only be processed if additional positions are required to meet the annual nomination allocation. Unprocessed JAFs will remain in the system but will expire once the 2025 nomination allocation is reached.

🏢 Implications for Employers:

  • Certificate of Registration (COR): Employers in the hospitality and trucking sectors must have an active COR. Starting March 27, 2025, these businesses must meet minimum revenue requirements based on workforce size to be eligible for a COR.

  • Workforce Composition: Employers in these sectors are restricted to hiring foreign workers for up to 30% of their total workforce.

  • Vehicle Requirements for Trucking Companies: Only heavy vehicles that are registered, licensed, and insured in Saskatchewan will be considered. A maximum of two truck drivers per qualifying vehicle will be approved.

👷 Implications for Foreign Workers:

  • Eligibility Criteria: Candidates in the capped sectors must be temporary residents already in Canada with valid work permits.

  • Work Permit Restrictions: Holders of Spousal Open Work Permits are no longer eligible under any SINP pathway.

  • Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Holders: Eligibility is now limited to specific SINP pathways, including the Student, Health, International Skilled Worker: Employment Offer, and Agriculture Talent Pathway.
